The Landhuis Santa Barbara (Landhuis), an historic landmark in Curacao, is a plantation house situated on 63,130 m² of privately owned land with spectacular panoramic views of Spanish Water, the Pete Dye Old Quarry Golf course, the Table Mountain, the ocean and surrounding hills and land. The property consists of four adjacent private parcels of land that are partially located on a gentle hillside and features 200 meters of waterfront. The property is located within the Santa Barbara Plantation which is fenced.

Originally built in 1662, the Landhuis had various owners until 1976 when it became a family home. The Landhuis has never been open to the public; it has been well-maintained and includes original architectural details. Coming up to the house you are welcomed by the sweeping stairs that lead to the large patio with an outside bar. The center of the house includes an entry hallway with stairs sweeping to the 2nd floor. Both the first and second floor boast a wide gallery and contain 2 separate bedroom suites with each an ensuite bath and dressing room, 2 living rooms, a den/study, office suite with ensuite bath and bedroom, kitchen, dining room, hallways, and a guest bathroom. Monumental status

Notwithstanding the rich history and the monumental appearance of the object, neither the Landhuis itself nor the accompanying buildings have been designated as an official monument. The wall fencing may be considered a monument. Indian graves and remains of Indian settlements have been found on the premises.

Zoning requirements

In the Zoning Plan Curacao (EOP-Eilandelijk Ontwikkelings Plan) the entire area of the Landhuis Santa Barbara is assigned as a touristic area, e.g. hotels and recreational housing. The Curacao Government is actively promoting all aspects of tourism making.

Eastern side of Curacao within the Santa Barbara Plantation on the shores of Spanish Water, an inlet from the Caribbean Sea, about 14 km from Willemstad, the capital.
